Top Three Clean Beauty Makeup Ingredients That You Need in Your Products
For the past few years, I have been trying to focus on becoming healthier and being more intentional with my choices. This intentionality has even leaked over to my beauty routine. I have become more focused on what types of ingredients are in my daily products and understanding how they either harm or benefit me. I try my best to eliminate products that are clearly toxic and focus on more natural organic ingredients. However, even figuring out what types of clean ingredients I should be incorporating becomes confusing at times.
Lately, Clean Beauty has been a buzzword that is everywhere. With that, there has been an increase in natural products on the market. Clean beauty makeup products are great because they are made with naturally derived ingredients and non-toxic formulations. However, not all clean beauty products are created equally. There are some better ingredients out on the market that will bring much more health benefits than others.
Here are my top three clean beauty ingredients picks that are worth incorporating into your daily personal care and cosmetic products.
- Olive Oil
Olive oil has been used as a skincare remedy since the time of ancient Greeks and Egyptians. It is essentially the liquid fat obtained from olives. As it is a source of fat, olive oil contains essential fatty acids, which have various health and cosmetic benefits. Olive oil can be combined with other beneficial ingredients and used in skincare and cosmetic products with a low potential to be sensitizing or harmful.
The Benefits of Olive Oil:
- Natural Moisturizer: Olive oil is praised for its moisturizing properties and will help reduce water loss. This is important to have in your personal care products as it will help keep your skin hydrated and supple.
- Antioxidant Protection: Olive oil is full of antioxidants, which help protect skin cells against inflammation and environmental damage.
- Beeswax
Beeswax is a wax that comes from bees and has numerous functional properties such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, disinfectant, antifungal and antiviral. It has been used for its skincare properties for centuries. Modern times have adopted the use of beeswax in many products due to a large number of benefits.
The Benefits of Beeswax:
- Skin Enhancer: Beeswax inhibits the growth of bacteria, which can prevent and treat skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. It can also eliminate the bacteria that can lead to acne flare-ups.
- Skin Moisturizer: Beeswax’s properties help protect and repair rough, dry or chapped skin because of its ability to lock in moisture.
- Lip Healer: The natural moisturizing properties of beeswax makes it perfect for lip products to heal dry, cracked lips. Therefore, having beeswax in clean makeup lip products automatically gives you a natural moisturizing lipstick.
- Cocoa
Cocoa Butter is known for its skincare benefits, so there’s no doubt that it should be on this list. It is a rich source of bio-active phytocompounds, phenolic antioxidants, essential minerals, vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids. All of these components are beneficial when applied to the skin, and therefore should be an ingredient in your clean beauty makeup or skincare routines.
The Benefit of Cocoa:
- Skin Moisturizer: As Cocoa is high in fatty acids, it is super effective at hydrating the skin. The fat forms a protective barrier over the skin to hold in moisture.
- Natural UV Defence: As stated above, Cocoa is loaded with compounds called phytochemicals. These substances serve as a natural defence against UV rays which protects the skin from damage.
- Anti-Aging Properties: The phytochemicals in Cocoa also prevents the production of enzymes that degrades skin cells. This prevention slows down the ageing process and reduces wrinkles.
